General Excavating is an award-winning contractor serving public and private owners throughout the Midwest. General Excavating specializes in the construction of underground utilities, environmental remediation, excavation shoring, directional drilling, hydro-excavation, and heavy civil including bridge and concrete structures.

General Excavating is searching for a highly motived and detail oriented Form Setter. This position is responsible for performing tasks associated with concrete form setting, concrete finishing, rebar installation, and dirt work. Workmanship must meet the specifications of the project under supervision of the onsite foreman and project management team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned:

  • Perform various formwork related tasks involving physical labor and the use of hand or power tools on box culvert and bridge construction projects.
  • Study project plans and sketches to construct bridge and other concrete structures in accordance with project specifications.
  • Ability to read a tape measure and perform simple project layouts accurately.
  • Assemble and fasten materials to build wood and steel form systems used to cast concrete structures using hand or power tools, and screws, nails, or other hardware pieces.
  • Erect and dismantle forms and other supports for assembling structures.
  • Align, place, and tie reinforcing steel mats and cages of various sizes.
  • Assist in setting girders, stripping formwork decks, and other structure construction activities in all phases of construction as assigned.
  • Assist with pouring, distributing, and finishing concrete.
  • Thoroughly and effectively communicate with foremen and crew members to resolve construction related problems to eliminate delays and maintain efficiency.
  • Promote safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment including compliance with all safety rules and regulations established by the company and project owners.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or G.E.D.

Minimum of three years related experience and/or training.
 

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations

Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
