Summary

General Excavating is an award-winning contractor serving public and private owners throughout the state of Nebraska. General Excavating specializes in the construction of; underground utilities, environmental remediation, excavation shoring, directional drilling, hydro-excavation, and heavy civil including bridge and concrete structures.   

General Excavating is searching for a highly motived and experienced Journeyman Plumber to assist our Master Plumber in underground utility site work. This position must be licensed to inspect and perform work in the city of Lincoln and state of Nebraska.  

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned:

  • Possess and maintain a Journeyman Plumber License for the City of Lincoln, Nebraska.

 

  • Performs skilled technical work in the installation, repair, replacement, and maintenance of underground systems, including water main, sanitary and/or storm sewer systems.

 

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine layout of plumbing systems, water supply networks, and waste disposal systems.

 

  • Possesses a strong familiarity with plumbing codes, both nationally and locally.

 

  • Position, align, cut, join and fuse pipes together using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, soldering sealants or welding equipment.
 
  • Measure distances, set elevations and install pipe to grade as defined in drawings and specifications.

 

  • Practices preventive maintenance of plumbing tools and equipment by performing daily inspections of equipment to determine their working condition, oiling moving parts, cleaning and servicing tools and equipment as directed or specified in the operator's manual, and returning damaged tools and equipment for repair or replacement.

 

  • Procures materials, tools and rental equipment at specified times to conform to work schedules.

 

  • Confers with supervisory personnel, owners, engineers, contractors, inspectors, material suppliers and/or equipment dealers to resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints or construction problems to improve construction methods and performance.

 

  • Inspects or reviews work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications, schedules and safety compliance.

 

  • Provide effective and accurate communication to supervisors, owners, subcontractors and subordinates by telephone, email, in person or written form to ensure project details and company information is efficiently relayed.
 
  • Monitors compliance with project safety program requirements.  Documents and ensures corrective measures are implemented as necessary.

 

  • Enforces compliance with administrative policies, procedures, safety rules and governmental regulations.

 

Qualifications

Possess a Journeyman Plumber License in the City of Lincoln.

Class A CDL preferred, but not required.

A clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) to pass and maintain company insurability guidelines.
 

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum of 4 years of recent plumbing experience.
 

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

 

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract multiply and divide.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance. Ability to read a tape measure and convert inches into tenths.
 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving multiple variables in standardized situations.
