Summary
General Excavating (GE) is an award-winning contractor serving public and private owners throughout the state of Nebraska and South Dakota. General Excavating specializes in the construction of; underground utilities, environmental remediation, excavation shoring, directional drilling, hydro-excavation, and heavy civil including bridge and concrete structures.
GE is searching for a qualified Crane Operator responsible for operating lattice boom cranes and other various types of heavy equipment, as specified by supervisor. The qualified candidate works on construction projects primarily operating cranes, but must be willing to assist in daily maintenance of equipment, slings, cables and straps, as well as other job site operations, as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
- Assists in the loading / unloading of equipment and supplies needed for daily work assignments and properly securing work area.
- Extensive knowledge of rigging compliance and procedures along with the ability to operate within equipment load limits.
- Performs daily inspection and ensures that equipment is in safe, proper working order including fluid checks and proper lubrication.
- Communicates and coordinates with site supervisor to efficiently complete daily tasks to ensure project deadlines and schedules are maintained.
- Possesses knowledge and experience of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and record keeping systems of cranes.
- Understands and uses all applicable crane hand signals.
- Experience with diesel pile hammers and vibratory hammer driving operations for the construction of bridge, box culvert and other structures.
- Reports to foreman and shop when equipment maintenance and repair needs are beyond operator’s ability and skill set.
- Works closely with crew members using hand signals to coordinate work and ensure safety.
- Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination and stamina necessary to complete jobs with various conditions and terrains.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds and push / or pull 50 pound loads at a time.
- Must be able to stand and walk up to eight hours per day and climb stairs while carrying materials weighing between 40 and 60 pounds.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet) and able to perform work on uneven surfaces.
- Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite.
- Reports damage, accidents, or delays at construction sites to ensure that proper construction procedures are being followed.
- Monitors compliance with project safety program requirements.
- Enforces compliance with administrative policies, procedures, safety rules and governmental regulations.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations
NCCCO Mobile Crane and Lattice Boom Crane certified.
Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
CDL preferred, but not necessary.
Education and/or Experience
Five (5) years minimum related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
