General Excavating is seeking an HR Benefits Manager who will take a lead role in managing and communicating employee benefits programs. This position will ensure all employees, especially Spanish-speaking team members, will have full, equitable access to benefits information and assistance. The candidate will also support broader HR functions with a focus on translation, compliance, and employee support across languages and cultures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Other duties may be assigned as needed.
- Administer and manage employee benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, 401(k), wellness initiatives, and leave programs.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for benefits-related inquiries from employees, ensuring clear communication in both Spanish and English.
- Assist employees with benefits enrollment, claims resolution, and eligibility questions, offering one-on-one guidance as needed in Spanish.
- Coordinate benefits education sessions and open enrollment meetings, conducting them in both English and Spanish.
- Translate and develop benefits-related documents, such as plan summaries, enrollment guides, FAQs, and claim forms.
- Ensure all benefits communications are culturally relevant, accurate, and easy to understand for Spanish-speaking employees.
- Monitor compliance with relevant federal, state, and local benefits regulations, including COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, and ACA.
- Collaborate with HR, Payroll, and external vendors to process and audit benefits transactions.
- Support the onboarding process by delivering benefits orientations in both languages and assisting new hires with form completion. Onboarding may take place at various office locations.
- Maintain and update accurate employee records related to benefits and compensation.
- Assist with leave administration, including FMLA and workers’ compensation claims, ensuring proper communication and understanding of rights and procedures in both languages.
- Serve as a trusted advisor and cultural liaison to Spanish-speaking employees, facilitating understanding of policies and building trust within the workforce.
- Translate HR documents, policies, and internal communications as needed beyond benefits.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Fluency in Spanish and English (verbal and written) is required.
- In-depth knowledge of employee benefits programs and relevant compliance regulations.
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to explain complex benefits concepts clearly.
- Excellent translation skills, particularly for benefits and HR-related content.
- Strong organizational and project management abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS/benefits platforms.
- Culturally competent, empathetic, and able to connect with a multilingual workforce.
- High level of confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience, preferably in a bilingual role or multicultural workforce setting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- Prior experience supporting Spanish-speaking employees is strongly preferred.
Language Skills
This position requires strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish. The candidate will have the ability to translate HR policies, procedures, forms, and conversations with a high level of accuracy and cultural sensitivity. They must be comfortable conducting meetings, orientations, and training sessions in Spanish, as well as providing one-on-one support to Spanish-speaking employees. Clear, professional communication is essential in both languages, particularly when handling sensitive or confidential matters.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance. Ability to perform basic calculations related to payroll, benefits administration, and compensation analysis. Ability to assist in HR budgeting, track expenditures for recruitment, training programs, grant programs, and forecasting needs.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
